Canadian Slavonic Papers Canadian Slavonic Papers / Revue canadienne des slavistes was established in 1956 as an occasional publication of the Canadian Association of Slavists which was formed in 1946 and became an independent learned society in 1954. In 1967 the journal began appearing twice yearly and became a quarterly in 1968. Today it remains the official organ of the Canadian Association of Slavists. Membership information is available in English or in French. The journal is especially strong in Slavic linguistics (East, West and South), in Russian literature and history, in Ukrainian literature and history, and Balkan history and culture. Articles are well balanced between modern, early-modern and medieval topics. Canadian Slavonic Papers publishes the only annual bibliography that surveys Canadian contributions on the former Soviet Union, Central and East Europe. The journal remains open to special thematic issues--as long as they undergo the same demanding review process. Recently it published an issue on Isaak Babel and another on Slavic Drama. The most recent issue contained six articles devoted to the question of nationalism and self-determination in multinational societies.
