The Battle of Neville's Cross 1346
Edited by David Rollason and Michael Prestwich
Published by Shuan Tyas (1998)

During the celebrations for the 650th anniversary of the Battle of Neville's Cross, a conference was held at the very site where the conflict took place. The ten papers from this conference have now been been brought together in one volume, which has been published for the North-East England History Institute by Shuan Tyas (Paul Watkins Publishing).
With the permission of Robert Hardy and Shuan Tyas, we are able to republish one of the articles from this book, namely:
Robert Hardy, "The Military Archery at Neville's Cross, 1346" - PDF file
This volume contains several papers which will interest historians interested in warfare in the Middle Ages. The other nine papers are:
Michael Prestwich, "The English at the Battle of Neville's Cross"
Alexander Grant, "Disaster at Neville's Cross: The Scottish Point of View"
Marie C. Dixon, "John de Coupland - Hero to Villain"
Robin Frame, "Thomas Rokeby, Sheriff of Yorkshire, the Custodian of David II"
Lynda Rollason, "Spoils of War? Durham Cathedral and the Black Rood of Scotland"
R.A. Lomas, "The Durham Landscape and the Battle of Neville's Cross"
J. Linda Drury, "The Monument at Neville's Cross"
G.A.L. Johnson, "The Neville's Cross Monument: A Physical and Geological Report"
Martin Roberts, "Neville's Cross: A Suggested Reconstruction"
An appendix is also included, giving English translations of several accounts of the battle.
