The Crusade of the Bishop of Norwich in 1383

In this section, we give some selected sources of the Crusade led by Henry Despenser, Bishop of Norwich, in 1383.  Under his guidance, an English army crossed the channel and invaded Flanders.  After capturing several towns and defeating French forces in battle, the English and their allies from Ghent undertook a siege of Ypres.  After several weeks, the crusaders gave up the siege, and soon after were forced to return to England.
